Ireland’s whistleblowing legislation, the Protected Disclosures Act 2014, commenced on 15 July 2014. The legislation set a new standard of international best practice for whistleblowing in Ireland.  The full implementation into Irish law of the European Union directive (2019/1937) was carried out in 2022 with a commencement date of January 1st, 2023. All policies on this area should be reviewed, revised, and aligned with the significant expansions to the scope and obligations set out in the new Protected Disclosures (Amendment) Act, 2022.
